The long-standing spirit goes on

PLA Daily 2004-06-10

A survey & map group of the General Staff Headquarters, which has never been idle in bolstering its capability in providing survey and map support, makes it its priority to provide high quality information for decision-making and for combat, and has successfully completed major military operations, joint border survey and photograph processing. For its outstanding performance, it was awarded a second-class collective merit citation by the principal of the General Staff Headquarters a few days ago.

This group is directly under the General Staff Headquarters and is known for its traditional spirit of seasoned topographic troops: it has the unusual makings of bearing hardships, fighting and doing crash jobs. Faced by the new requirements and challenges of the future information warfare in terms of military survey service, the unit has been using new technologies to remould the old ones, and applying traditions to new situations. The concept of "Task First" has been applied to generate capabilities in survey support under the new situation. In spite of all the changes in the ways of work and environment, their traditional spirit remained the same and goes on. In a recently finished survey support mission, they worked hard day and night to fulfill the task in 144 hours by resorting to their self-invented techniques and self-made materials, which would usually take them two months to finish the same high quality real sand table and the mating electronic sand table as big as nearly one hundred square meters.
