At 8:40 am of June 7, a field ambulance of a regiment under the Shenyang Military Area Command was dispatched specially to send Liu He to the examination site to participate in the military college entrance examinations. Liu got off the ambulance and walked into the examination room under the escort of a military doctor.
Liu joined the army in late 2002. In the selection exams for military college enrollment held by the division and regiment this year, Liu came out on top both in military subjects and other academic subjects. As the days for examinations were drawing nearer and nearer, Liu worked harder and harder for the examinations. Unfortunately, at the crucial moment, he suffered from perianal abscess. At noontime in June 3, his condition suddenly deteriorated and could not hold out any longer. The political instructor of the company immediately reported Liu's situation to Zhang Yan, the political commissar of the regiment. Zhang in turn ordered the company to send Liu to the hospital immediately for emergency surgery. Finally, in light of Liu's physical conditions and the suggestion of doctors, the regiment leaders decided to dispatch a field ambulance to send Liu to the examination site under the escort of the deputy director of the regimental political department and a military doctor so as to make sure that Liu was able to participate in the examinations.
