An air defense engineering group of the air force under the Chengdu Military Area Command has made vigorous efforts to tackle the key scientific and technological problems and accomplished 30 technological innovations. Some of its innovations have filled important gaps in various fields in China, such as application of new vacuum water absorbing techniques on plateau area and high fill road and field construction on plateau. So far this air defense engineering group has undertaken over 100 national defense projects and both the acceptance rate and high quality rate reached 100%. Hence this air defense engineering group is crowned as "Iron Troops in Southwest China". Cao Dingguo, director of the group, was awarded the title "National Model of Supporting the Government and Cherishing the People".
