Women's federation supports May 17 statement on cross-Straits ties

PLA Daily 2004-05-21

BEIJING, May 20 (Xinhuanet) -- The All-China Women's Federation has expressed its resolute support to the May 17 statement on the cross-Straits relations by the central authorities.

"The All-China Women's Federation resolutely supports the solemn stand of the Chinese government on resolving the Taiwan issue, firmly sticks to the one-China principle and opposes any forms of attempts to seek 'Taiwan independence'," said vice president of the federation, Huang Qingyi, Thursday.

Over the last few years, Huang said, the federation has developed ties and exchanges with dozens of women's groups in broad areas in Taiwan.

"People on both sides of the Taiwan Straits are of the same origin. In these exchanges with our sisters in Taiwan, we deeply felt the unbreakable bond of blood and flesh between compatriots on both sides," said Huang.

"It is our hope that the Taiwan authorities abandon the 'Taiwan independence' stand, stop activities for 'Taiwan independence' and return to the one-China principle and the consensus reached in 1992 for the sake of the well-being of Taiwan compatriots and the whole Chinese nation," she said.

"If they keep single-mindedly press ahead along the 'Taiwan independence' line, they are bound to be strongly condemned by all Chinese people and meet the punishment of justice. They will become unforgivable sinners forever," she said.

The federation would further increase exchanges with women and women's organizations in Taiwan in joint efforts to push forward women's cause and peaceful reunification of the country, Huang said.
