It was midnight. Several "enemy" aircraft took advantage of night darkness trying to launch a surprise attack against the guided missile regiment. Suddenly the alarm was sounded at positions of the regiment and the troops immediately threw into action. The radar tightly locked on the invading targets, giving the "invading enemy aircraft" no chance of escape. This is a spectacular scene of a tactical confrontation exercise staged by a guided missile regiment of the Nanjing Military Area Command Air Force a few days ago.
After equipped with new type of guided missiles, this regiment once achieved excellent results in a range practice with all missiles hitting the targets. In the face of its success, the Party committee members of the regiment remained sober-mined, for they knew that target airplanes (drone) were not their real adversaries and in future war, they had to deal with real strong enemies. Therefore, the regiment joined hands with an aviation regiment equipped with newly acquired sophisticated fighter planes to carry out confrontation exercise. In line with the fact that aircraft-mounted weapons of the new fighter planes have strong firepower as well as long-range air-to-ground attack capacity, the regiment took its troops to strange field area to conduct pertinent training, such as motorized march, rapid erection and withdraw of weapons, building field positions, etc., so as to boost emergency mobility and operation capability of its troops. In an confrontation exercise with real troops, the regiment, in light of the estimate of "enemy situation", marched over a hundred kilometers, to swiftly build field positions for an ambush along the incoming flight course of "enemy aircraft" and successfully brought down all "enemy planes" which attempted to launch a surprise attack.
The regiment also adopted various means to conceal the truth and show the false to the enemy, and practiced repeatedly the offensive and defensive skills in electronic warfare. In recent years, through many confrontation exercises against strong adversaries, the regiment has developed a number of new fighting methods, such as laying ambush according to circumstances, conducting interference or misleading tactics against the enemy. All these have greatly boosted the fighting capacity of its troops.
