Aviation regiment tempers night operation capability

PLA Daily 2004-05-12

To meet the requirements of actual operation, an aviation regiment of the air force under the Nanjing Military Area Command has prioritized on the training of air armada simultaneously attacking multiple warship targets on the sea under complex weather conditions at night. Considering that it is more difficult and dangerous to conduct attack with live ammunition at night, the regiment has increased the time for tactics subjects drilling at sea and carried out day-and-night drilling for many times. In the offshore training at night involving air fleet formation, there are little surface features and objects that can serve as flight references on the sea. Therefore, it is very difficult to navigate and pilots are apt to have illusions. In order to temper the combat capability, various obstructions such as electronic jamming, radar tracking and locking are set in attack drillings in complex waters to create an environment closer to real battle. In a lot of simulated attack drillings, combatants have all mastered the skill of hitting the target with the first shot in the first attack once the target was found.
