Last year when Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) broke out in Beijing, Zhao Shuyuan, director of the nursing department of an affiliated hospital of the PLA Beijing Military Area Command General Hospital, was ordered to immediately go to Xiaotangshan Hospital to take the post of director of the nursing department. She eventually fulfilled her assignment with complete success. After returning from Xiaotangshan Hospital, she lost no time to sum up her experience at Xiaotangshan Hospital and completed her research project entitled " On Nursing Management of SARS Specialized Hospital under Emergency Conditions", and then she applied her research findings to practical preventive work in her hospital. She also worked out a management flow under emergency conditions and compiled four terms of training materials and gave lectures in her hospital and other medical units. As her efforts have improved the emergency medical support capability of the nursing contingents, she was awarded the title of national woman pace-setter and won a second class merit.
