A story about tree-planting at wedding ceremony

PLA Daily 2004-04-15

On Feb. 14, during their wedding ceremony, Zhou Zheng, an NCO from a unit of the Shenyang Military Area Command, and his wife Wu Min planted three balata trees in the greenhouse of the unit in the presents of all. The balata saplings, brought by Wu Min from her hometown Hubei Province, became the witnesses of their love. What they did got waves of applauses from the officers and men in the unit.

Zhou Zheng is a part-time booster of the afforestation drive. He has devoted himself to the afforestation and beautification of the barracks while trying to do a good job in promoting afforestation. Zhou Zheng and Wu Min made their minds to get married in the military unit. Before Wu Min set off from her hometown, Zhou Zheng told her on the telephone especially, "When you come, you have no need to bring anything except for some saplings and seeds. They make the best gifts." Thus, Wu Min took three saplings and some flower seeds with her and set off. Since the place where the unit is garrisoning was extremely cold then, she enveloped the saplings in her coat when getting off the train, being afraid that the saplings would be frozen to death and she herself had to withstand the severe wind in thin clothes. That's how the story started.
