Deputy Wan Rangxin is a senior engineer and director of an equipment repairing station of the Nanjing Military Area Command. Under his leadership, the small repair station with few personnel has made surprising achievements, i.e. 13 scientific research results won Military Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, among which two have been promoted across the PLA.
Wan said that it was not bad to win awards for innovations, but winning awards should not be the only goal of innovations. He proposed that in grassroots units, renovations should be done on the basis of the existing equipment and should meet the needs of training and military operation. Every renovation should achieve good results with small inputs. There can't be many technical talents in a grassroots unit, so an appropriate mechanism should be established to ensure that these talents could work for a unit when necessary though they do not belong to the unit.
