PLA Daily 2004-03-09

On the eve of the Women's Day, the Long-Distance Telephone Exchange Company of a general communication station of the Chengdu Military Area Command made a breakthrough in the construction of intelligent support platform, a task assigned by the General Staff Headquarters of the PLA. Now the task to explore telephone traffic operation on informationized platform, undertaken by a batch of female NCOs, has entered the institutionalized stage. Company Commander Du Yan told the reporter that the female NCOs of the company had played an important role in facilitating the transition from analog communication to digital communication.

After entering the new century, the company has used digital telephone switchboard to replace the old equipment. The female soldiers, who used to handle the old equipment skillfully now found themselves in a frantic rush with IT equipment, which can accomplish transfer of telephone call, recording of call tickets and data storage by computerized system. Nowadays, female telephone operators can key in all kinds of military information swiftly and accurately. When talking about the NCOs who had taught these female telephone operators, all of them would turn their thumbs up in approval.

The female NCOs in this company was the first batch of backbones that could operate the new equipment, therefore, they had the unshirkable responsibility to be the first to operate the new equipment for telephone traffic. While ensuring smooth telephone communication, they also actively explored the new training method to optimize human-computer combination. They compiled new training textbooks for new generation of telephone equipment and developed multimedia courseware in light of the requirements of new Outline of Military Training and Evaluation and technical performance of the new equipment, so as to enable the training to proceed in a standardized and orderly way. Besides, they also analyzed the differences between the old and new equipment, and on this basis, they made bold innovations to enhance the trainings intensity with focus on computer operations. They keyed in various telephone traffic information into computers to replace memorization by telephone operators, and then search the required information from computer through skillful operation.

During the trainings, these female NCOs got some enlightenment when they made multi-media courseware and developed simulated training software, making the dull telephone traffic trainings more vivid and interesting. Their suggestions got the supports from the leaders of the general station. Xiao Yan and several dozen other NCOs wrote a demand report with a few hundred thousands Chinese words in line with the requirements of the telephone operator on-duty trainings. Thus, the technicians developed a stimulated training system with integrated training of brain function, oral function, ear function and hand function, which realize the organic integration between the trainings and telephone traffic operation and shorten the training period.
