On the afternoon of February 29, the Environmental Protection and Afforestation Commission of the Guangzhou Military Area Command and Guangdong Provincial Afforestation Commission jointly launched a large-scale voluntary tree-planting activity with "citywide participation to landscape Guangzhou" as the theme. Officers and men of the PLA army, navy, air force and the armed police force joined hands with civilians from all walks of life to plant over 6,000 saplings on over 200 mu of land. According to the statistics, in recent years, troops under the Guangzhou Military Area Command have supported the locality to plant 286, 000 mu of trees and finished 15 key landscaping projects. In addition, they have also built 13 voluntary tree-planting bases, and has thus made important contributions to afforestation in southern China.
