Research institute excels itself in IT application

PLA Daily 2004-03-01

Recently, an information network scientific research project undertaken by a research institute of the General Staff Headquarters of the PLA won first-class National Scientific and Technological Progress Award. So far, 9 scientific achievements made by the said research institute have won National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards and 216 achievements have won Military Scientific and Technological Progress Awards.

In recent years, the Party committee of this research institute has made efforts to boldly promote excellent young scientific personnel in its scientific research, and let young scientific and technological backbones that have displayed great potentials be leaders in various research projects. In addition, the institute established cooperative mechanisms for tackling hard-nut scientific problems among various research offices and project groups so as to share resources among them. All these have greatly boosted its scientific research efforts. For example, Xie Yongqiang, a 28-year-old doctor-degree holder, was assigned to be in charge of a key scientific research project. Leaders of the institute encouraged him to be bold in his work and strive to make innovations, and supported him with fund from "bonus funds of institute director" and "special funds of chief engineer". All these support had made it possible for him to solve key scientific problems in a rather short period of time. For another example, an unsolved key technology had been the "bottleneck" hindering army's informationization. In order to tackle this hard-nut problem, the Party committee of the institute appointed Yu Quan, who had come back from overseas after obtaining his doctor degree, to be in charge of the project, and provided him favorable support in terms of funds, research personnel and research facilities. After one year's hard work, the prototype was successfully produced. At present, the institute boasts a scientific research group comprising of 2 academicians and 140 doctor-degree and master-degree holders. A total of 100 research projects are now in progress, among which scores of projects are key scientific research projects. A batch of high-quality scientific research achievements made by this institute have provided powerful support to our army's informationization drive .
