Soldiers' stars

PLA Daily 2004-02-27

Yang Jie and Yang Min are twin sisters. They graduated from Hunan Provincial Arts School's Dance Department and joined the PLA as signalwomen in 2002, realizing their dreams of becoming soldiers. Now, they are very dynamic performers of a unit under the Guangzhou Military Area Command.

They did not know life in the army was a little boring until they actually became part of it. Besides routine formation training, their daily activity would be memorizing professional materials and phone numbers, leaving them very little time to perform on their loved stage. They felt somewhat frustrated and, for some time, wept, because they felt to have been denied the chance of playing their vigorous role by using their talents in the army. Their political instructor noticed their depression and told them: "Since you've joined the army, you are first soldiers and should obey orders. It's your duty to do your obligatory jobs well. Of course, we do need such talented performers as you two to enrich our grassroots troops' life. "

His words restored their confidence in service life. Since then, they have been emulating, learning from, catching up with, helping and in turn surpassing each other in their routine jobs. In their spare time, they have kept on practicing dancing skills. They have created and performed a large number of programs describing grassroots soldiers' life, including dances, crosstalks and mini-plays. They will put on show each of their creations in front of soldiers in their spare time and during the breaks of work and training. Their graceful dancing, sweet songs, amusing acts can greatly entertain their audience and make them forget about their tiredness.

They created and performed two plot dances Girls in the Army and Robot Soldiers at the Spring Festival party this year, which won praises from their superiors. Because of the two dances, they were called to join the entertainment team under the Guangzhou Military Area Command Headquarters. They have, together with the entertainment team, covered more than 40,000 kimometers and staged 37 shows for the officers and men in units directly under the Headquarters, thus becoming stars in the hearts of soldiers.
