Special lines are extended to a one-person pumping station

PLA Daily 2004-02-20

Out of the expectation of Chen Jiao, soldier of an anti-aircraft artillery regiment of the Chengdu Military Area Command, his ragged verse could cause the attention of the leaders and could earn his pumping station the access to the closed circuit television, telephone and net. What's more, leaders of the regiment also examined their mistakes.

By the end of January, an anonymous ragged verse appeared on the LAN of the regiment. " Line here, and line there, line for the pumping station is nowhere; east breeze, west breeze, how come to this corner the spring breeze can not reach." This verse caught the attention of Gong Xiaomin, commander of the regiment. Gong came to the station in person and found there was no telephone here. Cheng Jiao, who was in charge of water supply of the regiment, could only shout towards soldiers stationed at the foot of the mountain for help. Although the regiment had access to net long before, but there's no computer here. An old and shabby TV available was of no good for this remote place and could not receive any signal.

"The pumping station can't become a forgotten corner of the leaders", Regiment Commander Gong talked this over with the members of the Party standing committee of the regiment. After calculation, they found the laying of the three kinds of lines (telephone line, TV line and cable) would cost tens of thousands of yuan. Was it worthwhile to lay these lines for a pumping station with only one soldier? After discussion, they reached a common understanding: Priority for the grassroots, soldiers first. Taking care of the soldiers should not only be lip service. Since the regiment could afford it, lines should be extended to the pumping station. Several days later, the regiment invested nearly 30, 000 yuan and extended the TV line, telephone line and cable into the mountain. In addition, five kinds of newspapers and periodicals and digital books and disks were subscribed for Chen.
