In early February, disciplinary action was taken against 3 officers and men from a unit of the Beijing Military Area Command, who damaged the distant technical support software and the chip of computer network monitoring system by accident, while over 10 advanced individuals, who did an outstanding job in information equipment protection, were praised.
The unit is in charge of the task of provision, management and technical maintenance of some of the weaponry equipment and parts. In order to realize rapid support and provision and precise technical maintenance, the unit has established advanced computer network monitoring and commanding center system through self-development and outsourcing, resulting in considerable improvement in terms of informationization. However, due to the out-of-date mentality of some officers and men in terms of not taking chips and software as indispensable parts of these equipment, which was not helped by their low quality in handling information equipment, cases like software and chips being damaged occurred from time to time.
This has dawned on the leaders that along with the progress of informationization in the armed forces, the number of information equipment will increase with each passing day. Tangible or intangible elements such as chips and software are equally important equipment as the touchable guns and ammunitions. Therefore, it's a must to strengthen information equipment management. To this end, on the basis of making officers and men understand that "chips and software are also equipment" and studying "Weaponry Equipment Management Ordinance", they have come up with "Several Regulations on Strengthening the Information Equipment Management", "Detailed Rules on Information Equipment Management" and "Punishment and Praise for Information Equipment Management". Besides, they have also put to practice the responsibility system of information equipment management.
