Ms. Liao, an old American Chinese lady, recovered from her chronic disease torturing her for half a century at the No. 188 Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Area Command three months after returning to China from the U.S..
Ms. Liao had immigrated to the United States before the founding of New China, whose illness was diagnosed as an incurable disease "brain atrophy" by many hospitals in the U.S. fifty years ago. In her seventies, her will to return to China became stronger and stronger. Last July, accompanied by her relatives, she flew from the other side of the Pacific Ocean to Chaoshan area, her hometown in Guangdong Province. Her family members sent her to the No. 188 Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Area Command out of admiration for it. The hospital set up a medical team for treating her immediately and the experts in the team analyzed her symptoms carefully and came up with the definite diagnosis as "multiple compression fracture of thoracic and lumbar vertebrae and osteoporosis". After receiving medical treatment for over one hundred days, Ms. Liao recovered by a miracle. On the eve of the Spring Festival Day, Ye Dahua, director of the department of internal medicine of the hospital, received a letter of thanks from the U.S. written by Ms. Du, daughter of the old lady, showing her gratitude towards the medical team and the hospital.
