On January 11, the rumbles of cannon could be heard in the deep of the Lesser Hinggan Mountain, the "Red" and "Blue" armies were engaged in a fierce confrontation exercise. This was a winter adaptability exercise conducted by a division of the Shenyang Military Area Command in light of real combat requirements.

The division prepared different training contents for different training targets, so as to let commanders, combatants and support personnel have chance to hone their own specialized skill in the exercise with focus on the command-and-staff training, and the training of element officers, various specialized technicians and support personnel. During the exercise, the division made sure to let troops involved in training deploy at the designated locations according to tactical requirements and essential combat elements at the appointed time. In the exercise, the officers and men of the division constantly carried out study on the features of training and battle under severe cold weather conditions, and strived to find solutions to these features. In this winter adaptability exercise, the division set over 20 training subjects, such as setting up of command post, field survival training, protection training, guard and duty training, etc., to probe new mobile operation patterns and field support methods under harsh weather conditions. Through the exercise, the operational capability of this division under harsh weather condition has been greatly upgraded.
