Officers take the lead in patrol
The 4th company of a PLA unit has long been posted to China's northernmost border area---Beiji Village, Mohe city, where the lowest temperature is minus 57 Celsius degree. This area is known as "frigid forbidden area". As the local saying goes: " even a ghost can be frozen to death there".
Patrolling on rivers is a matter of life and death. On the New Year's Eve, snow blown by strong winds reduced the visible distance to just 10 meters. Five soldiers led by Company Commander Xiao Cicheng were patrolling on the river when their car suddenly fell into the river. Steamed breads and ham sausages they took with them had turned into "hard stones". After hours of hard efforts, they were eventually out of danger and continued their patrol.
Under the harsh environment at the border area, tracheitits, arthritis, and waist and leg pains are common diseases contracted by frontier officers and men, but none of them have ever flinched before tasks. Braving heavy snow and strong biting wind, they have made meritorious service at the northernmost border area. Inspired by the lofty conviction of "putting the interests of the motherland above everything", the officers and men of the 4th company have overcome great difficulties beyond imagination, and written a new chapter of patriotism and dedication of today's servicemen. The company was awarded the titles "Advanced Company in Grassroots Construction" and "Model Company in Grassroots Construction" by the Shenyang Military Area Command and Heilongjang Provincial Military Command respectively, and it also won collective citation second grade for 11 times, and collective citation first grade for once.
Last year, the company was awarded the title "Model Company in Hard Working" by the Shenyang Military Area Command.

It is so cold at the northernmost border area that the soldiers' breath is immediately turned into frost.
