Officers and men take turns to help an orphan in Tibet

 PLA Daily 2003-12-24

"Dunzhu, you have a kind of dogged determination in study, however, you need to be flexible in study method. You should learn from your teachers and classmates." "You are too introverted, which will give adverse impact upon your future career and life. You should try to have more contact with your classmates and learn how to get along with them."´ On the morning of Dec. 1, when people saw the parting advices, which has more than 20,000 words in 80 pages, they were all moved by the officers and men of the 1st Company of a regiment in Tibet, who took turns to help Ciren Dunzhu, an orphan, in his study and lives for eight years.

In early 1994, Ciren Dunzhu was only 6 years old when both of his parents died. In April 1995, the officers and men of the 1st Company donated 1,485 yuan to Dunzhu and sent him to Lalu Elementary School in Lhasa to study. Besides, after seeking help from various quarters, the officers and men eventually found a foster mother for him, and undertook all his education and living cost. However, not long after that, little Dunzhu was weary of study and started to play truant. Learning this, some veteran soldiers, who would soon be demobilized, spontaneously helped Dunzhu to set his mind straight, telling him the correct study method and how to conduct himself in society, and they took turns to make up missed lessons for Dunzhu. From that time on, each to-be-demobilized soldier would leave some words of advice for Dunzhu before demobilization, some were encouragements while others were criticisms, but all of which were from the bottom of their hearts.

Eight years has passed, leaders of the company have changed many times and many veteran soldiers have been demobilized, but the practice of "leaving behind some parting words for Dunzhu" has been kept alive. With the inspiration and encouragement from officers and men of the company, little Duzhu has made constant progress in his studies. Now, Dunzhu is a grade two student in Lalu Middle School and his score ranks five on the score list of his grade. Besides, he has been awarded the title of "Three Good" student for years.

In order to always remember the kindness of the PLA, little Dunzhu has compiled the words left behind by the demobilized soldiers into a book and always takes it along with him so as to constantly spur himself on,.
