Chairman Jiang Zemin signs orders to honor an air group and Yu Jianxing

  The Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China issued an order to award an air force flying group the honorable title of "Pioneer Flying Group in Scientific Training".

  This order, signed by Chairman Jiang Zemin, said that the group was a heroic one with a glorious history during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea and the East China Air Defense. Since 1996 when the group was equipped with planes of new models, it has been seriously implementing the strategy of strengthening the air force with science and technology. It has increased scientific and technological elements in its training, which resulted in improved fighting power and in making more than 30 breakthroughs in major tasks. The group has been conducting its training according to the requirements of real wars and was the first group to finish training program for planes of new models. It has explored fighting potential of the new planes, solved more than 20 training problems and completed 8 sets of fighting tactics. Through strengthened and intensified training, it has boosted greatly its operational capability in both defense and offense. For 52 consecutive years, no flight accidents had happened because of scientific training and strict observance of regulations. Over the past few years, the group has received many honorable titles given by the PLA general headquarters/departments and the Air Force. Also, it was awarded three second-class citations.

  The order said that the group was an advanced unit in implementing the strategy of strengthening the army with science and technology. Both the PLA and the Armed Police Force should bear in mind their duties and strengthen their fighting power; learn from their devotion to scientific training and their enterprise spirit in piloting new planes; learn from them in laying solid foundations and in establishing the matter-of-fact working style in order to be really up to the mark. The order called on the PLA officers and men to learn from the group under the guidance of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Central Military Commission, Deng Xiaoping's theory, the important thought of "Three Represents" and the general requirements of being qualified politically and competent militarily and having a fine style of work, strict discipline and adequate logistical support to promote military changes with Chinese characteristics and realize leaping strides in army modernization.

  The Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China issued an order to award a posthumous first-class merit citation to Yu jianxing.

  The order signed by Chairman Jiang Zemin, read: Prof. Yu Jianxing was killed at the age of 38 on an overseas mission on March 13, 2003. He had been sent abroad twice as representatives of the Chinese government to carry out overseas missions. In 2003, he covered more than 50,000 kilometers in dangerous areas and compiled more than 60 reports totaling nearly 300, 000 words, contributing greatly to world peace. He was the director of the No. 3 Department of the PLA Anti-Chemical Commanding and Engineering Institute of the General Staff Headquarters. He was born in Jingjiang City, Jiangsu Province in September 1964 and joined the PLA in September 1980. He holds a PhD of science and was an Army colonel. He was an outstanding young expert in the field of anti-chemical warfare and was a leading figure in acquiring new scientific knowledge.
