The auto unit of the Qinghai-Tibet military depot has been carrying out the tasks of delivering material to Tibet along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. For over 10 years the unit has insisted on driving vehicles in a civilized way and paid close attention to driving safety. As a result the unit has not caused any serious traffic accident, and has set an exemplary role for improvement of traffic order and driving style along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway.
The Qinghai-Tibet Highway, which is dubbed "heaven road", is a lifeline for the army and the people in Qinghai and Tibet. In the past, accidents and disputes happened frequently due to large traffic volume along the highway. In view of the above-mentioned situation, this auto unit sticks to civilized driving and works out a number of rules and regulations on civilized driving and driving safety for officers and men to observe. Over the years, the officers and men of the auto unit helped civilian drivers to remove vehicle malfunctions for over 200 times. In addition, the officers and men also took the initiative to direct traffic flow on the highway whenever there was traffic jam. Their exemplary action has greatly helped to improve the traffic order and driving style and reduced accidents on the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. On April 5 this year, the Tanggula area was hit by heavy snow and over 1,200 autos were stranded in the Tanggula Mountain. The officers and men of this auto unit walked more than 10 km to the forward edge of traffic jam to direct the traffic flow under snowstorm. After over 10 hours of hard work, they finally managed to restore the normal traffic on that sector of the highway.
