At 10 o'clock yesterday morning, there were colorful flags fluttering as well as thunders of gongs and drums in the barracks of the "Tashan Heroic Regiment" of the Guangzhou Military Area Command. The first group of 47 new soldiers from Maoming City, Guangdong Province were given a warm welcome by the officers and men of the regiment on their arrival at the barracks.
With the guide of the backbones, new soldiers came to their dormitories. And then they were surrounded by their enthusiastic roommates. Some told the new ones to have a rest, some brought water for them, and some talked with them with deep concern. The newcomers soon felt that as if they were at home.
During the lunch time, regiment commander Gu Chengxue and political commissar Zhong Jianhui went to the dining room of the No.2 company of the new soldiers, and had lunch together with them. Noticing that soldiers were very nervous, Gu said kindly: "Help yourselves with more food. " And Zhong placed a big crab into the bowl of the new soldier Li sitting next to him, and said in humor: "Wipe it out! " Deputy regiment commander Liu Boming told me that they sent all excellent cooks of the regiment to the new soldiers' companies so that they could have good meals in the unit.
After the noon break, the political office organized the new soldiers to visit the Memorial Hall of the Tashan Heroic Regiment. According to director Li Xinguo, on arriving at the unit, new soldiers' first lesson was to visit the Memorial Hall of the Tashan Heroic Regiment, the first song taught was the Song of the Tashan Troops, and the first movie was the Tashan Blocking Campaign. The aim is to help new soldiers lay a solid ideological foundation through learning the glorious traditions of the troops.
In the evening, I arrived at the No. 3 company of new soldiers, and saw that Sun Jianjun was writing a letter to his family. In the letter, he wanted to tell his parents that he felt the life in the army was as warm as at home because there were complete living and cultural facilities and his commanders and squad leaders took good care of him.
