Since 2001, Zhang Lei, an NCO of the maintenance battalion of a unit under the Jinan Military Area Command, has been donating money to the "Hope Project" of the city where the battalion was stationed without attracting public attention. In addition, he is the after-school activities counselor of an elementary school and a secondary school respectively. Not long ago, Zhang Lei again donated 1,000 yuan to the "Hope Project" of Linyi City, Shandong Province, and presented more than 30 volumes/sets of books to the elementary school near their barracks.
