On the morning of November 26^th, at the year-end commendation meeting of an armored brigade of the Chengdu Military Area Command, Li Gaoming, a soldier of the 2nd Company, held a merit citation third class badge he had just received in his hands and said excitedly:"I didn't expect I could get this prize." At the meeting, four other "behind-the-scene heroes" who worked hard in military training featuring new technologies also went onto the stage to receive awards.

　　At the beginning of this year, the Party committee of the brigade set up an innovation team made up of technical experts. And the team was sent to the repair battalion to undertake the task of developing the instrument for swift detection of malfunctions of engine on armored vehicles. The battalion sent Li Gaoming, a little "engine expert", to assist the innovation team. Li Gaoming actively performed his duty by providing logistics support to the innovation team, in addition, Li also took the initiative to find data, and draw schematic diagram of the engines for the innovation team. During that period he consulted over 800 related technical books, put down more than 300,000 words of notes and drew more than 200 schematic diagrams. He also proposed to the team that its emphasis of research should be on the changes of electric circuits and the test of exhaust gas heat of engines. His proposal greatly enlightened the team. In July this year, the multi-functional engine detector, the research result of the innovation team, was highly praised at the meeting on new innovation achievements of military training featuring new technologies sponsored by the higher level, and was awarded the first prize.

　　Before the year-end commendation meeting, members of the Party committee of the brigade reached an agreement after consultation that both the before-the-scene heroes and the behind-the-scene heroes in the military training featuring new technologies should be commended. Finally, Li Gaoming, together with members of the innovation team stood on the stage and received the awards.
