Railway departments solve problems for armed police guarding railways

 PLA Daily 2003-12-04

In the past 3 years, the railway departments at all levels invested nearly 200 million yuan for the renovation of barracks of several hundred armed police units guarding railways in different parts of China. Now, these barracks have presented an entirely new look.

The armed police troops guarding railroad, bridges and tunnels are in charge of protecting several hundred bridges, tunnels, and other targets along the railway lines throughout the country. With simple living houses and barracks furniture, the life for these officers and men was very tough. In December 2000, the Ministry of Railway, railway departments at all levels, and the General Headquarters of the Armed Police Force decided to join their efforts to solve practical problems for these officers and men as the concrete action of implementing the important thought of the "Three Represents". For more than once, they set up joint work teams to conduct on-the-spot investigation and gave specific guidance to the people involved in the work. At the same time, railway departments at all levels and the armed police contingents in different provinces signed their responsibility pledges and faithfully implemented them. Thanks to 3 years' unremitting efforts of the two sides, they invested 200 million yuan to refurbish or repair barracks with total floor space amounting to 179,000 square meters, and bought 45,000 pieces of furniture. Now, barracks of several hundred armed police grassroots units are being equipped with various modern living facilities, and have taken on a completely new look.
