Welfare of the new recruits emphasized in Tibet MAC

 PLA Daily 2003-12-04

On December 1st, a piercing cold wind in Lhasa sent temperature down abruptly. Several thousand new soldiers from Guangdong and Fujian Provinces felt the chilliness of the altiplano. When they were worried about how to survive the cold weather, every one of them received an extra thick cotton quilt purchased by the Tibet Military Area Command (MAC).

On the morning of December 1st, leaders of the Tibet Military Area Command came to the No. 9 Company of a motorcycle regiment to inspect the work there. They showed their great concern about soldiers' living conditions when arrived at every squad. New soldiers were all greatly encouraged. Xue Jiahui, who was a new soldier from Datong City, Shanxi Province, told the reporter that they received particular care from leaders during the 3 days they came to Tibet. According to deputy political instructor Zhang Zhenghua, the company had made full preparations for ensuring a decent life for the new solders.

In order to do this, Duan Luding, political commissar of the Tibet Military Area Command, said that they collected funds by themselves to purchase cotton quilts as well as anti-anoxic medicines. Besides, they sent 7 work teams each led by a member of the Party standing committee of the Tibet MAC to the grassroots units so as to inspect logistics support of new soldiers. Units at different levels also did their share in helping the new recruits to overcome difficulties, and many bought electric blankets and stoves for them. The twin brothers from Ba'nan District of Chongqing City told the reporter that they felt s of they were at home in spite of the anoxic conditions in Tibet.
