Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of general staff of the PLA, met with representatives attending the conference honoring the retired officers and delivered a speech yesterday. In his speech, Liang pointed out that Party committees and leaders at all levels should regard the work related to the retired officers as a serious political assignment, stick to the important thoughts of "Three-Represents" in the work and have initiative in services so as to keep pace with times and handle properly matters related to the work.

　　At the same time, Liang emphasized that the retired officers had made great contributions for the country, and they were precious treasures of the Party and the army. Therefore, it was an important responsibility as well as a political task for Party committees and leaders at all levels to do well the work related to the retired officers. Great attention should be paid to the work with highly political responsibility, more input should be given to the work in order to make sure that these veterans can full enjoy the fruits of reform and open-up. Quality should be made the core of service and whole-hearted enthusiasm should be applied in serving these veterans. Political care should be shown to them so as to enable them to learn the state affairs as soon as possible and to offer advice on army building. What was more, well-being of these veterans must always find a place in our mind and excellent practical services should be offered to them.
