On November 18th, an air defense brigade used "AA gun battalion digital fire-control system" in its live ammunition exercise, which displayed remarkable air defense combat capability of its troops.
According to Brigade Commander Liu, "AA gun battalion digital fire-control system" could directly be connected with alarm radar information transmission system. Therefore, even if the artillery radar or director could not find the target, the artillery could still conduct barrage fire in light of firing data fed on by alarm radar under all weather conditions. The reporter saw such a scene on the spot: when the "enemy plane" approached at high speed, radar stations of this system at different directions swiftly worked out firing data and then transmitted them to the firing terminal of antiaircraft artilleries. Three types of antiaircraft artilleries hidden in the firing positions automatically selected the best trajectories and formed a three-layer of barrage fire against the "enemy plane". According to the sources, the calculating speed of this system is several times faster than the one on the existing equipment, and its hitting accuracy is also much higher.
Two years ago, the brigade started to build a new platform, which was more in keeping with modern air defense combat. The brigade used information technologies to modify its existing equipment. They set up a scientific research team, and sent personnel to some colleges, research institutions as well as other units to learn from their experience in this respect. Thanks to its efforts, the brigade tackled a series of technical problems and succeeded in developing a "AA gun battalion digital fire-control system". The system has effectively solved the problem of effective coordination among the units with different caliber guns. This system was now awarded a second class Military Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
According to experts who watched the exercise, the system has realized digitalization for the whole process of air defense operation from early warning, command control, fire control and air defense firepower, and has thus greatly boosted fighting capacity of the air defense forces.
