Three to-be-demobilized veterans capture drug traffickers

 PLA Daily 2003-11-27

23 veterans of the 3rd company of a frontier defense regiment in Yunnan Province who would soon be demobilized, used only 10 minutes to capture an armed transnational drug-trafficking gang in their last patrol.

On November 23, the officers and men of the 3rd company were patrolling in the vicinity of the Nanyi River when they found a motorcycle illegally entered the Chinese territory by a small path. Company Commander Ding Xiangjun immediately approached the motorist to examine the certificate. When he learned that another 4 persons were also going to enter the Chinese territory illegally with drug, Ding ordered his colleagues to hide up and take close observation.

At 10:35, as expected, a vehicle illegally entered the Chinese territory. Ding immediately led his subordinates to close in on the illegal trespassers. Just at that time, a drug-trafficker drew out a pistol and aimed at Ding. At this critical moment, veterans Li Xiaoyuan, He Changlong and Liu Jiye pounced on the drug-trafficker holding the gun and subdued him as well as other drug-traffickers. Through investigation, they found that these illegal trespassers belong to an armed transnational drug-trafficker gang. In this encounter, the officers and men captured 5 drug traffickers, 14.76 kg opium, one T54 pistol and over one hundred bullets.
