Prof. Xu Shulin has devoted himself to scientific research for 15 years and is crowned as the "miracle-working doctor" of artillery. In the recent years, he has made more achievements aiming at meeting the requirements of actual warfare of the troops.
Before firing, the artillery has to receive blocking force test. With the old test devices, every locking body had to be taken down before the test and the check of each piece would need at least 15 minutes. In other words, it would take more than 10 hours to finish checking the whole artillery. Obviously, that kind of time-and-manpower consuming check could not meet the requirements of actual warfare. Prof. Xu wondered if the test could be carried out without dismantling the artillery. Driven by this idea, he started immediately to make research and developed a new blocking force test device. Thanks to his rich experience, he succeeded in working out the new test device in no time. The new device adopted the leverage principle and could finish testing a locking body in 8 second without dismantling the artillery, thus the test efficiency was improved by hundreds of times.
Several years ago, Prof. Xu developed the firepower test system of the test vehicle for a new-type of artillery. However, the availability factor of the system was not high since its usage was confined only to some types of artillery. Since last year, Prof. Xu has made further research on the test system and made a bold reform. He placed the positioning unit of the caliber measuring device and the gauge head on the same bore section to solve the problem derived from different twist angles of various artilleries. The micro-volume liquid discharging pressure measurement developed by him can automatically measure the liquid volume of various artilleries. The application of these research results enables the test vehicle to become all-purpose in terms of being able to carry out test on self-propelled artillery and all kinds of ground artilleries and the equipment support capability of artillery troops has been greatly improved.
