"It is the wisdom of our motherland and people that sent me into space!" On the afternoon of November 24, space hero Yang Liwei made a report on China's spaceflight program and his own deeds in fulfilling the mission. His stories created quite a stir among the 2.8 million people at his hometown---Huludao City, Liaoning Province.
From his personal experience, Yang told stories about the huge success achieved in China's manned spaceflight program and the makings of Chinese space workers in enduring hardships, in trouble shouting and in dedication. He also told the unique experience of himself as China's first taikonaut to space and what he had paid in his endeavor to fulfill the sacred mission. His audience included workers, farmers, science workers, students from primary and middle schools, officials, servicemen from the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the Armed Police Force. Yang's speech was received with thunderous applauses.
Li Dongming, a 19-year-old senior high school student who was at that time undergoing military training in an air force unit, told reporters that he would take Yang Liwei as his model in his studies and training so as to become an air force pilot as soon as possible to serve the motherland.
