Recently, a group army of the Jinan Military Area Command held a confrontation maneuver to cultivate the decision-making capability of commanders at various levels under emergent situations.

　　The maneuver was conducted in mountainous areas without any pre-plans and the directing team directed the maneuver in the light of the circumstances then and there. The group army invited the training experts from the upper levels and different arms to act as judges. In less than 5 minutes after the start of the maneuver, the directing team caught a mechanized infantry brigade unprepared: it ordered the second echelon of the brigade to become the first echelon and its mission was to change from supplementary attack to main attack. With unexpected change of the mission, the brigade commander swiftly revised his decision when the troops were still on the move, and then issued order to his troops. As soon as the brigade had handled above-mentioned situation, the directing team set a dangerous situation to an armored shock team of the brigade: the armored shock team was ambushed by the defense detachments and the armed helicopters of the enemy, at the same time its communication was interrupted by enemy's strong electronic interference. The commander of the armored shock team promptly started the backup communication network, and adopted the fighting methods of "combining evasion tactics with attack and destroying the enemy one by one" so as to breakthrough enemy's blocking operation. Along with the speed up of the progress of combat, the directing team set various new emergent situations to test the commanders at various levels….
