In October, a division of the Guangzhou Military Area Command conducted a comprehensive exercise under high-tech conditions to test the combat effectiveness of its troops.

　　This exercise was conduct in close-to-real-combat conditions, and the directing department directed the exercise according to the changing situations, and made last-minute changes of troops' assembly point for 2 times. During the exercise, the directing department set many situations, such as maneuver and assembly, decision-making of commanders and movement of troops, so as to check in an all-round way the practical capabilities of the troops in future war. During the exercise, the division handled the situation smartly and always took the initiative in its own hands.

　　In this joint exercise, the troops of the division coordinated closely with troops of the Navy and the Air Force, and demonstrated remarkable joint operation capability in using firepower to destroy obstacles, and in joint strike against the "enemy" in defense.

　　In order to upgrade the comprehensive quality of officers and men in joint operation, the division adopted various measures to boost the capability of commanders at all levels in normal trainings, such as battle case study, mock training and exercise with real troops, etc.

　　In order to solve psychological problems of officers and men in future war resulting from great intensity, quick tempo and great destructive power of war, the division intensified psychological training. The division invited 6 experts to teach officers and men on psychological knowledge, and probed ways on how to achieve psychological readjustment and psychological recovery. When the training was to be organized, the division purposely chose bad weathers such as gale, rainstorm, scorching weather to conduct comprehensive exercise. At the same time, it set such combat situation as landmine area, poisonous gas area and missile blockade area, etc in the exercise to let officers and men to temper their fighting will and courage in the mock battlefield. In addition the division also established a psychological warfare simulation-training center to simulate the grim battlefield environment to let officers and men to experience the cruelty of the battlefield and enhance their psychological bearing ability.
