When Minle and Shandan of Zhangye City, Gansu Province suffered earthquake, over 1000 officers and men of a unit of the Lanzhou Military Area Command rushed to the front line of disaster relief to implement rescue works.

Upon receiving the rescue order, the unit immediately organized over 1,000 officers and men to the Yonggu Township of Minle County, the epicenter, to rescue the earthquake victims and assets. At the same time, they sent over 60 vehicles to help the local government to evacuate the masses and transfer the materials. In the severely damaged Yaozhai Village of Yonggu Township, the officers and men helped the victims to rush-transfer grains, livestocks and daily necessaries braving chill wind and the dangers of possible collapsing of the damaged houses. At the same time, the first batch relief material dispatched by the Lanzhou Military Area Command arrived at the area in the evening of October 26.

The Zhangye Military Sub-Command also promptly organized troops, militia and reserved forces to rush to disaster relief. Though families of some militiamen and reservists suffered the earthquake themselves, they devoted themselves all the same to help to evacuate the victims and set up temporary tents.

At 10:00 pm on October 25, upon receiving the news of 5 people being buried in the damaged houses, the militia emergency company of Minle County rescued the 5 victims safely after one hour's hardwork. And 2 militia emergency companies of the People's Armed Forces Departments of Minle County and Shandan County rushed to the severely damaged Yaozhai Village and Longshan Village to evacuate teaching aids of 4 schools.
