In late September, an artillery brigade of the Guangzhou Military Area Command conducted a test during the field drill. The results of 4 "make-up" companies made up of officers and men who had stayed behind were all excellent. That was to say, all the officers and men of the brigade had passed the field drill test, indicating that the integrated combat power of the troops had been greatly upgraded.
In the past, officer and men in the rear had no chance to participate in field drill, which had given adverse impact upon the upgrading of the overall combat power of troops.
In June this year, officers and men of this brigade had greatly improved their fighting capacity after traveling a thousand miles to conduct rigorous training in a certain area. At the same time the brigade Party committee realized that only by letting officers and men who had stayed behind to make up their field drill, can the overall combat power of the troops be quickly upgraded. With this in mind, leaders of the brigade decided to replace the officers and men who had stayed behind during the field drill, and let them make up their missed field drill. In mid-August, the brigade organized officers and men to go through a comprehensive test and those who excelled at test were chosen to replace the officers and men who had stayed behind during the drill.
In order to let these officers and men to learn combat skills in the shortest possible time, the brigade grouped them into 4 "make-up" companies, which were subdivided into 22 teams according to their specialties. After that the brigade selected battalion and company commanders who did well in field drill to teach them. This measure has effectively upgraded the ability of officers and men who had stayed behind.
