Pickles to improve the nutrition of frontier soldiers

  In late autumn, at a "Pickles Exhibition and Evaluation Meeting" sponsored by a frontier defense regiment of the Xinjiang Military Area Command, nearly a hundred pickles with Sichuan, Shandong, Guangdong and Hunan flavors were on show. Presently, more than 200 pickles can be seen all the year round on the dining tables of officers and men of the frontier troops in Xinjiang.

  As the frontier defense line in Xinjiang is rather long and the climate is very harsh, it is very difficult for officers and men of the frontier troops to grow vegetables for their own consumption. In order to solve this problem, the Joint Logistics Department of the Xinjiang Military Area Command attached great importance to pickling vegetables by frontier troops and provided timely scientific guidance to them. So far it has distributed such materials to the troops: "500 Pickling Ways" "Teaching Materials on Pickling Vegetables", etc. Presently, the frontier defense troops can have more than 30 pickles for their choice in their daily meals, and some troops even have as many as 60 different pickles. Different flavor of pickles have not only satisfied the taste of officers and men from different regions, but also improved the nutrition of the frontier troops. In addition, through organizing pickling activity, the troops have trained a batch of talents in this respect. A soldier named Wang Jianmin learned the pickling skill in a frontier regiment, and when he was demobilized, he immediately engaged in pickling business, and his yearly income amounts to 100, 000 yuan.
