BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) Chinese Minister of National Defense Cao Gangchuan held talks here Wednesday with his Australian counterpart, Robert Hill.
Relations between China and Australia had developed rapidly since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1972, said Cao, also vice-chairman of the Chinese Central Military Commission and a state councilor.
Cao said the two militaries had carried out active exchanges and cooperation, which contributed to peace and stability, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. The Chinese armed forces were willing to promote the development of ties with the Australian armed forces.
Hill said relations between Australia and China had grown increasingly closer. Australia was willing to develop comprehensive cooperation with China and to strengthen cooperation in defense.
