Lieutenant General Li Yu, assistant to the chief of general staff of the PLA met Brigadier General Simong Ong, president of Training Institute of the Singaporean Armed Forces in Beijing yesterday.
Li Yu first extended warm welcome to General Simong Ong and his delegation. He said that China attaches importance to the friendly cooperative ties with Singapore. The two countries share broad common understanding in international and regional affairs and enjoy sound cooperation in economic, cultural and education fields, which is not only in the fundamental interest of the two peoples, but also conducive to the peace and development of the region. In recent years, the relation between the two sides have developed smoothly, and China is willing to further cooperation with the Singaporean Armed Forces, especially in modernization drive of armed forces. Li also briefed his guests on China's view on the current international and regional situations and China's current development and the building of the Chinese armed forces.
General Simong Ong expressed his appreciation to Lieutenant General Li Yu for finding time to meet him and his delegation. He said that through his current visit, he has seen with his own eyes the pace of development of the PLA, and expressed the hope that the cooperative relations between the two countries and two armed forces be further developed.
