Xu Caihou, Director of the General Political Department of the PLA met with Antonio Hama Thay, the Minister of the Veteran Affairs of Mozambique yesterday morning in Beijing.
Xu, who is also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that friendship between China and Mozambique goes back to the ancient times. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the ties between the two countries have been constantly consolidated and developed, and fruitful cooperation have been conducted in the fields of politics, economy, culture and military. The Chinese and Mozambican armed forces have maintained long-term friendly ties. In recent years, the leaders of the two armed forces have exchanged visits frequently and conducted good cooperation in many fields.
Xu also briefed his guests on China's policy on national defense and army building. He said the PLA, guided by Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of "Three Represents", will earnestly carry out various missions of national defense and army building put forward by the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and stick to the principle of strengthening the armed forces by relying on science and technology, unswervingly taking the road of fewer but better troops with Chinese characteristics, accelerating the military changes with Chinese characteristics, striving to accomplish the historical tasks of mechanization and IT application and realizing the leapfrog development of its modernization drive
Hama Thay said China maintained friendly relationship with Mozambique since Mozambique started to fight for independence, and Mozambique had always attached great importance to the cooperation between the two countries and the two armed forces. He expressed the hope that his current visit would further promote cooperation between the two armed forces in the field of resettlement of veterans.
Hama Thay said Mozambique would, as always , support China's great cause of reunification of the Motherland.
