A PLA naval base of the South China Sea Fleet took the reform of training and fighting methods as the breakthrough point, in an attempt to probe out new ways for accomplishing training tasks. In mid-August, it organized tactical application training with real war scenario and made several breakthroughs, and through which the comprehensive combat effectiveness of the base has been greatly boosted.

　　In compliance with the requirements of future wars and in the light of　the reality of co-existence of new and old equipment, the base　regrouped the naval ships in order to give full play to the comprehensive advantages of the old and new equipment. In view of the fact that some ships are weak in air defense capability, the base decided to bring into full play the advantages of new equipment, and through them to make early warning, early preparation, early defense and early attack possible, forming a multi-level air defense system composed of ship-to-air missile, long-range artillery and so on, which raise the comprehensive air defense capability.

　　In the confrontation exercise on the sea, through the offensive and defensive confrontation exercise with submarine and fighters, the formation of frigate has developed the best military strength formation and allocation and tested the commanding capabilities of commanders. Directed at some difficulties in tactic application, the officers and men used electronic atlas to draw scientific and executable plan. They also combined related subjects and change single-way guarantee to two-way guarantee to realize the optimization of drills resource. Through this, they upgraded the battle level of single ship and coordination ability among ships, improving the comprehensive battle effectiveness.
