By the end of 2019, the per capita income in Chengjiang Village had rocketed to RMB 10,073 from less than 2,000 yuan four years ago. All of the 122 registered poor households in the village had been lifted from poverty and achieved the goal of “two no worries and three guarantees” (no longer worrying about food and clothing and guaranteeing compulsory education, basic medical treatment and housing security).
Tan Nianlang is from a martyr’s family in the village. The exterior wall of his house carries a slogan translated as “Thank You, the Communist Party of China (CPC)! Thank You, the PLA Rocket Force.” Tan said this is the heartfelt feeling shared by all the villagers in Chengjiang.
In the winter of 2019, upon coordination with the government of Yudu County, the PLA Rocket Force formulated a subsequent poverty alleviation plan to launch 11 newassistance projects in Chengjiang Village. So far, such infrastructure projects as the culture square and public toilets have been completed. Those regular assistance programs such as medical care, cultural promotion, technique training, and rural tourism are in progress as scheduled.
When visiting the village, the reporters learned that many villagers in the past tried hard to send their children to schools in the town or the county seat for education. But now more and more villagers have taken their children back, and even residents in surrounding villages send their kids to the school in Chengjiang Village.

What led to this change? Wang Zhicheng, the headmaster of the PLA Rocket Force Chengjiang Project Hope Primary School, told the reporters that, over the past few years, the PLA Rocket Force has renovated the old classroom bilding and built new facilities such as multimedia classrooms, a playground with plastic tracks, and a football court. In addition, the PLA Rocket Force has set up a special fund to provide financial support for two teachers of the school to receive teaching training in Beijing each semester.
Guo Hongmei, a mathematics teacher in the school, is a beneficiary of the fund. Thanks to the assistance from the PLA Rocket Force, Guo said, most teachers in her school have got a chance to receive further training in Beijing. Now, the teaching quality of the Chengjiang Project Hope Primary School has achieved comprehensive improvement, making it possible for the children in villages to receive quality education.
During his visit to Tantou Village in Yudu County, President Xi noted that under the leadership of the CPC, the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation will definitely come true, and the lives of the people will get better and better. Thanks to the assistance from the PLA, Chengjiang Village has seen tremendous changes, and a bright future is waiting ahead.
