The China Committee on Religion and Peace held a symposium on Monday in Beijing to commemorate the 75th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) and World War II.

Representatives studied the spirit of a speech given by President Xi Jinping last week at another symposium commemorating the anniversary.

Pagbalha Geleg Namgyai, a vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and president of the religion and peace committee, called on religious figures and believers to make greater contributions to religious harmony, social harmony and world peace.

He said the committee calls on religious circles every year to pray for peace to commemorate the victory, carry forward the tradition of loving the country and religion, and express their commitment to the goal of safeguarding world peace and development.

Established in 1994, the China Committee on Religion and Peace is a nonprofit organization consisting of representatives from the four major religions in China — Buddhism, Taoism, Islam and Christianity.

The committee aims to promote unity and harmony among religious groups and increase exchanges and cooperation with religious circles around the world. It is also committed to safeguarding national unity and striving for world peace and common prosperity.
