China, Malaysia vow to deepen bilateral military relations

BEIJING, Oct. 12 (ChinaMil) -- General Fang Fenghui, chief of the Joint Staff Department under China's Central Military Commission (CMC), met with General Zulkifeli Bin Mohammed Zin, the Chief of Defense Forces of Malaysia, in Beijing on October 11.

Gen. Fang said that China and Malaysia are good friends, neighbors and partners. With the joint promotion by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak in recent years, the two countries have been further deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership, constantly enhancing their political mutual trust and continuously expanding their pragmatic cooperation, Fang said.

The bilateral military relations between China and Malaysia have also been maintaining the good momentum of development, as evidenced by fruitful pragmatic cooperation in such fields as personnel training, exchange between military academies and joint drills, which has increasingly become a new growth aspect in the bilateral state relations, Gen. Fang continued.

The Chinese side is willing to work with the Malaysian side to continuously expand the fields of cooperation, deepen the cooperation contents and upgrade the cooperation levels, so as to push forward the in-depth development of the relations between the two militaries, Gen. Fang stated.

The peace and stability in the South China Sea comply with the interests of the countries near the South China Sea, including China and Malaysia. Fang stressed, adding that China and Malaysia should continue to maintain good communication and coordination on the South China Sea issue and work with other countries in the region to jointly safeguard the regional peace and stability.

General Zulkifeli expressed that the Malaysian side is willing to make joint efforts with the Chinese side to establish and perfect relevant mechanisms and deepen pragmatic cooperation, so as to promote the development of the military-to-military relations between the two countries.

The Malaysian side is committed to the peaceful solution of the South China Sea dispute through consultation between relevant interested parties, General Zulkifeli added.
